Deer antler extract

Postby Cheryl S. » Mon May 03, 2010 9:24 am

A good friend attended a talk given this past weekend by a well known naturalist who said that deer antler extract is good for lyme, boosting the immune system and relieving joint pain. Anyone have any knowledge about this?

Hi, Cheryl S.:

Your post intrigued me, so I did a quick google search. Very interesting. Here is one link: http://books.google.com/books?id=ZFMRKZ ... me&f=false

It is Connie's book and she is interviewing Mr. C. Is this the person your friend heard? I also see in my google search, as well as on that page, that it is used in TCM.

Here is another interesting article. It is part of the sales, but was interesting nonetheless. http://books.google.com/books?id=ZFMRKZ ... me&f=false

What will they think of next? :) I would be interested to hear someone who has taken it and hear what results they had.

Thanks for sharing,
Cheryl

Cheryl, both links you put up appear to be the same.
Notice that it's Deer Antler VELVET. Boggles the mind just HOW that would be 'harvested'.

SOMEwhere I remember SOMEone bringing up this notion that spirochetes are actually NECESSARY in order for male deer to initiate antler growth. (nice to know they're good for SOMETHIN' eh?) Another friend was sure she'd heard somewhere that Lymers are MORE likely to have dental TORI..... odd bony growths on their gums, mostly on the INSIDE , but for some on the OUTSIDE of their gums. I had BEAUTS. On the inside, beneath my tongue, but they made EVERY trip to the dentist a major nightmare. I had to have them surgically chiselled off two years ago as they were impeding other work I needed to have done. I remember howling to Matthew "Am I growing ANTLERS in my MOUTH?????" He did NOT have any answer for me.

I looked all OVER the internet and found NO connection between Lyme and dental tori.
I've not yet heard from anyone who's actually used Deet Antler Velvet, but hey. You never know.

Hi Cheryl and LadyB: It is interesting, eh? My friend took notes at the lecture by this guy and should (hopefully) be sending more details shortly. But, she said that he made the comment that deer are probably covered with ticks that transmit lyme, and yet, they do not die (don't actually know if that is true?) and so his feeling was that there was something in their immune system that wards off the disease (hence the deer antler velvet). Hmmmm, sounds a little interesting, doesn't it? Not sure if I'd actually try it (maybe in one of my darkest hours... 8-) Anyway, I am an open-minded skeptic so I thought I would throw that one out there. And, since we're on the topic of extracts - LadyB - is the licorice root extract brewed up and ready to go? If so, I'll be sending you out an e-mail shortly. Be well!

You are right, Lady B, I accidentlly posted the same link twice! I went back to try and find the other site, and of course I can't! I am bummed. Maybe if I had been taking deer antler velvet......

Speaking of tinctures.....I want to add cilantro to my "mix" and wondered if you had any. Let me know.

Chat later, Ladies.

Licorice root is done, yes.
Cilantro I haven't done yet.

Here's a Wikipedia entry on 'Velvet Antler'. While the notion of scraping off the 'velvet' I found pretty bizarre, CUTTING OFF a deer's antler is far worse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_antler

There must be an official 'term' in herbalism for 'just-because-something~contains~some-substance-doesn't-mean-that-OUR-ingesting-it-has-any-benefits'.

Dogs seem to 'get' Lyme, but cats (as far as I've heard) do NOT. (although they're more than happy to bring the ticks into the house for you!)

Our Western Fence Lizard (cool little thing with a blue belly) has SOMETHING in its blood that vaporizes the spirochetes IN the tick that is feeding on it. Test tick: full of spirochetes. Tick bites lizard>test tick: NO spirochetes. Test bitten lizard: NO spirochetes. I even got in touch with the gent (Robert S. Lane) doing the research on this and asked him why he stopped! Three guesses. NO ONE would fund any more research. But even if he could have IDENTIFIED the component in lizard blood that does this, is there any in there for us? Probably not. But still interesting.
