Nettles

Postby Gina M » Sun Jun 06, 2010 3:58 pm

It took me forever to find the thread on nettles! So, I'm starting a new one so I can find the info again!

Here's what you said to do:
Put 1/2 cup nettle leaves in a pint (2 cup) jar. Add boiling water. Steep at least 4 hours or overnight. Drink a pint (2 cups) daily.

Is this right?

So, my next question... Finally found a fantastic herb store here in town! They were out of nettle leaves, but had some powder. I explained what I wanted to do, so the gal directed me to some tea bags that you iron shut, so I went ahead and got some of the powder just to go ahead and have it. (I got like 2 ounces of it for about $2.)

Do you happen to know how much powder would equal 1/2 cup of leaves? I just wanted to go ahead and get started! They will have the leaves next week sometime and I'll get on track with that. Or do you suggest I just take the powder in a capsule? I have '00' size. If that's ok, how many should I take at once?

Thanks so much! I appreciate your help!

Gina, just EAT it. Sprinkle it on food. Exactly how much? Notta clue. It's like asking exactly how many carrots one 'should' eat. It's FOOD. But even how much powder equals half a cup of 'cut and sifted leaves' I purely don't know.

What normally goes into tea bags is what we call 'tea cut' which is smaller than 'cut and sifted' and definitely coarser than POWDER. I suspect that powdered nettle might come through the tea bag, maybe not. Some powdered herbs we make into electuaries which is mixing the powder with enough honey to make a paste. I would NOT be inclined to do that with nettles because of the taste. Nettle tastes SpinachGreen.

But seriously, ANY way you get Nettles into your face is SPLENDID NOURISHMENT.

Okie dokie! So, no measurement of how much to take? I may have to make the tea for my daughter because she won't take pills. I tasted the powder and it wasn't horrid. I could probably do the honey thing and be ok - my daughter might too! She tends to like strong foods like I do. Just as long as it's not a pill!

On the Lyme and Rife board someone was saying that you mentioned that you'd feel something right away taking the nettles. I'm wondering if those of us already on cortisol would feel anything? I'm thinking because we are already supporting our adrenals that we may not feel that instant boost. It's just my theory... wondering what you think!

Thanks so much for your help!

I honestly don't know about the cortisol/nettles connection, but I suspect you'd feel less of that deep energy, but who knows, as Nettle is a very complex whole PLANT and cortisol is just one specific thing. I guess you'll have to tell us!

When we all learned to make the "SusunFusion" of Nettles (using a full cup of cut and sifted dried leaves to a quart of boiling water and let it steep OVERNIGHT) you have a ferociously strong infusion that some folks can't drink at all and others can't get ENOUGH of. The 'standard dose' of that infusion is two cups a day, but it's nearly a moot point, as some people will chug the entire quart in a day and others have to water it way down and sip it like iced tea. But basically, like I said, it's FOOD.

Re: Nettle Tea

Postby DeniseCC » Sun Jun 27, 2010 11:48 am

I made my first batch of nettle tea yesterday following Gina's instructions as posted. I purchased organic nettle leaf from mountainroseherbs.com. They also carry the best turmeric which I buy in capsule form.

I coiled last night, and added some time (5 seconds) to my session as I am slowly building up. I am working and do not want to get sick with a bad herx. I awoke this morning with a pounding headache. First thing, I did my oil pulling. Then I drank my water with lemon juice. Half an hour later, I drank my first cup of nettle tea. Half an hour later, I prepared a coffee enema. As I turned onto my left side to get into enema position, I heard and felt my gall bladder gurgle. This was BEFORE the coffee enema. Do you think the nettle could have stimulated this to happen?

I started with full strength nettle tea since I hadn't yet read the other posts saying to go slowly. After the enema and shower, my headache was gone and I felt great. This afternoon, my headache has returned, although not so badly. I took a dose of chlorella and will do some further detox supps.

In the beginning, I was thinking I'd drink my 2nd cup of nettle tea about an hour before dinner. Now I'm thinking maybe not the full dose, if at all. I must be having a mild herx from coiling. How does nettle mix with coiling? Will it amplify it in some way? I admit I haven't read all the posts throroughly. Please excuse me if I am being redundant.

While I've tasted far worse things than nettle tea, I don't care for the taste. It smells like fodder to me! Is nettle best taken on an empty stomach or can it be mixed with food intake? Also, can it be mixed with another tea to help disguise the taste? I don't want to do anything that will mess with the effectiveness of the nettle.

Thank you!
